Even, an absolutely healthy woman should start to take mammograms after age of 35 and after the age of 45 this must repeated every three years. After the age of 50 this becomes an annually necessity to monitor the health of breasts. Women who are carriers of faulty genes (BRCA1, BRCA2) should consult a physician and do annual mammography from the age 25. Mammography is recommended for these groups: · Women wishing to take breast cancer screening tests. · Women who noticed an unusual mass in their breasts. · Women after breast surgeries. Mammography, how is it done? Each breast will be examined with X-rays in two opposite directions. Breast will be squeezed between two plates to take an accurate image. The whole process might take a few minutes, and then the image will be provided by the radiologist for doctor to examine. |
